Buying Coupons=Saving Money!
For the past two months now we have been buying our coupons and I have to say it is definitely paying off for us. Since October, we have only been purchasing our groceries from the grocery store and everything else we need for our household or ourselves we purchase from Melaleuca. In our monthly order we only buy what we need for that month. So, in switching stores to Melaleuca our grocery bill monthly has been cut drastically and we weren't cutting or using at least half of the coupons in the newspaper (which is a waste since we were only buying the newspaper for the coupons). After doing some research I found a couple of web sites that sell coupons. They post national coupons, just not coupons for the Indy area so there is definitely a lot more variety. While still getting the newspaper, we decided to buy our coupons for a couple of weeks to see if it was worth it and it most definitely is!
The perks to buying your coupons is that in coupon/grocery shopping you are shopping like you do with Melaleuca. You only buy the coupons that you need and you only buy the groceries that you need. You aren't having to clip unneeded coupons, clip any coupons (since they already come pre-clipped), or even clip coupons for those products that 'I may need' (and let's face it, if it's in the 'I may need' category we buy it and don't use it).
With that, we have really stuck with our, if it's not on sale and we don't have a coupon it isn't bought. The only exception to that is bread (we buy that at the bread store), milk, eggs, and produce. While milk, eggs, and produce may be on sale, it is very rarely if at all there are coupons for them.
Tonight I only spent $3 on coupons and that was on 40 coupons that I will most definitely use and know those products are on sale. (Make sure you really look through your ad and notice patterns of how specific items go on sale; I promise, there is a pattern). Sometimes a product may go on sale every 2 weeks where another item may be on sale monthly, etc. For us, we stock up on the Mega Sales that Marsh & Kroger have every month and then on the 'off' months where the sales aren't that great we either aren't going grocery shopping or we are just buying those couple of things we need: milk, bread, etc.
Today, at Target, I bought 20 boxes of Jell-O for $.07! Only $1.40!!! Which is awesome for Jell-O that was originally .67 a box.
For anyone with kids, shopping for registeries, etc. Buy Buy Baby informed me this week that they accept any stores coupons that sells baby/kid products (Macys, Meijers, Target, Kohls, Baby Depot, Babies R Us, Bed, Bath, & Beyond, and any other store I have forgotten). As long as they sell baby/child products and the coupon is NOT expired, they will accept it. They will also accept electronic coupons as well.
Beware, most restaurants do not accept any electronic coupons (meaning, coupons on your phone). Most stores will accept them but the restaurants are more stingy on accepting them.

The Bread Store!
I have to dedicate this post to my new friend, Katie, who has introduced me to the bread store. Our family is all about saving money by finding the best grocery deals and using coupons. She has told me about the bread store off and on and I knew of it but had never been there. I didn't really think it would save me that much money. Today, with kids in tow (seriously, when will we learn that kids in tow & the store are NOT a good combination :)) we took a field trip to the bread store. It is such a small shop but it was awesome! They had bread 3 for $1, hamburger/hotdog buns for .69, sandwich wheat bread 2/1.59 when they are usually 3.19 a loaf, bagels & english muffins for 1.25 each. Awesome deals! Plus they had donuts too for a great price. Everything is just as fresh but SO much cheaper! So, if you are in the market for bread and looking for a great deal go to the bread store and if you are not in the Indy area see if your area has one :)

Caution Kroger Customers!
I think the title says it all. My new grocery shopping/coupon friend scoured the ads this week, matched up our coupons and thought we had it figured out...that led to complete disappointment.
If you have ever seen the Kroger "Mega Sale" ad they advertise specific participating products at a special price if you purchase any 10. You can buy 10 of the same item, mix & match, etc. Then for every 10 of those products you purchase you get $5 off at the register. Sounds like a great deal, right? Well, we found out it was too good to be true and are completely disappointed of Krogers false advertising they have and how they lead you to believe you are saving money when you ultimately are not and are spending more...shame on them!
Come to find out the price you see in the ad if you buy any of 10 of the participating products is the price you pay and you DON'T get an additional $5 off when you are at the register. Kroger is making you think by the wording in their ad that you get an additional $5 off, you even believe it because you see it on the receipt (-$5.00) but if you add up all of the products at the buy 10 price you are not getting an extra $5 off. Plus, they claim there is a limit on how many "10" items you can purchase before you do not get an extra $5.
Needless to say, I had them cancel my order, dumped my bags in my cart and walked out. Later, I called and asked the manager how their "Mega Sale" worked and she said that if you buy 10 items you get it for the special price then at the register on your receipt you will see $5 off. So, I said that means you get an extra $5 off she said yes. Then I said, well for example. I buy 10 2-liters of pop at .89 which equals $8.90 then I get $5 off that, right. All of a sudden she said no the $5 is 'incorporated' with the adjusted price. She said there was a limit but she didn't know what it was.
I'm definitely disappointed and will not be shopping there again. I feel cheated. For those in Indy, I did ask Marsh how their "Mega Sales" work and they said if you buy 10 you get it for the promotional price then you do get an extra $5 off so I will be an even more dedicated Marsh shopper.

Savvy Savings!
This week Marsh & Kroger extended their Mega Sale ad so my new friend and I went over the ads & our coupons, made our lists, and set out to go! I got $233 worth of groceries for $106.11! Now we will be set on everything for at least 2 weeks (on the milk/bread/egg front) and at least a couple of months on everything else :)

4 gallons of milk $2.29 each (milk is almost never going on sale, boo!)
1 bag pretzels $1
3 bags of chips $1 each (for tacos and snacks)
5 chip dip $1 each (had coupons for 3 of them)
1 jar of yeast for our bread machine
1 package of Angel Soft $1 (had a .50 coupon that doubled to $1)...FREE
2 Gatorade $1 each (had a coupon buy one get one free)
20 Dole Jar of fruits $1 each (had a coupon for $1 off each container)...FREE
dog food 15.99 for a 50lb bag
Subtotal: 86.46 Paid: 40.62...Saved 50% off of my order.

I had 2 transactions since Marsh will only double 2 of the same coupons per transaction.

Savvy Savings!
Happy Friday!
We had a huge shopping trip yesterday to get us all restocked for the next couple of months. The last time we had a trip like this was in November :) Ever since then we have only purchased items that we need (milk, bread, eggs, fruits, etc.) and those items that were either free or really cheap (less than .50).
So, here are my savings!
Kroger (This week the have on specified items, buy 10 get $5 off for each 10 of those items you buy and you can mix and match!) Everything that is high-lighted was a part of this deal. I had coupons for everything but the pizzas.
I spent $100 and saved $96
Marsh (This week the have on specified items, buy 10 get $5 off for each 10 of those items you buy and you can mix and match!) Everything that is high-lighted was a part of this deal. I had coupons for everything but the pickles, bananas, tomatoes, lettuce, and marshmallows) Marshmallows were Christmas clearance :)
2 packages of turkey bacon
20 containers of yogurt
bananas
2 boxes of cake mix
tomatoes
3 packages marshmallows
4-4 pack yogurt
My subtotal was $176 and I paid $88...Saved $90!
